Five Day Tours

Day 1

You are met at the Whitemark airport and start your tour travelling south to Yellow Beach where you enjoy our lunch. In the afternoon you tour to Badger Corner then onto the Unavale Vineyard, one of Tasmania's most unique vineyards. Some of the beautiful wines are sampled with a chance to buy a bottle or two as well.

Next is Vinegar Hill for panoramic views across Franklin Sound to the many islands south including Cape Barron and Vansittart Islands. From here the wreck of the Farsund at the eastern end of Vansittart Island can be seen. You return to the accommodation at the Furneaux Tavern at Lady Barron overlooking Franklin Sound.

Day 2

This morning you travel the east coast where you visit Cameron's Inlet a breeding ground for the many bird life. You will see many of the northern waders that migrate to this area from the north and take a walk along the beautiful east coast beach with fantastic views of Babel Island.

Travelling further north to the Patriarchs Wildlife Reserve you will learn of one man's determination to protect Cape Barren Geese and establish this reserve, a beautiful setting for lunch. You then travel to Tobias Lookout for sweeping views over the north and the east of the island the areas where the Soldier Settlement scheme was implemented. After a tour of Memana you return to Lady Barron via Thule.

Day 3

After breakfast you travel to Port Davies on the west coast of the island where you are divided into two groups, one enjoying a morning away on a charter boat, fishing and exploring the waters around Prime Seal Island and Marshall Bay. Weather permitting some fish will be caught to BBQ (island style) for lunch on return to shore. Our host for the day is the island, fisherman Mike Nichols.

The second group will visit the historic Wybalenna Chapel and Cemetery and learn all about the sad history of the Aboriginal community who were transported here in the 1880s. We visit the island museum which houses written information, photos and artifacts of the past settlement of this beautiful island. After lunch the groups are reversed.

Day 4:

Today you travel to the northern part of the island stopping at Sawyers Bay to take in the magnificent views and then onto Mt Tanner for even more views of the west coast. We visit Killiecrankie, the home of the famous Killiecrankie Diamonds. Continuing north the tour takes you to Palana then onto the North East River for the magnificent views over the Sisters Islands and along the beaches south to Babel Island then returning to the Furneaux Tavern at Lady Barron.

Day 5:

Today you travel to one of the most popular beaches on the island, Trousers Point. The area boasts of white sands, crystal clear turquoise waters, red lichens on the rocks and Mount Strzelecki in the background which makes this a favourite beach with everyone. After exploring this unique area you continue on to Whitemark for a chance to browse or purchase a souvenir before returning to the airport for your flight home.
